Digidry Instructions LARGE
FORMAT DIGITAL Please review all of these instructions in advance of attempting to assemble, install, or operate the equipment to assure that the proper tools, materials, and personnel are available for safe and successful usage of the dryer. The Black Body "DigiDry" is packaged in 2 cartons so that it meets the shipping requirements of conventional ground and overnight package delivery services. Please make sure both cartons have been received before attempting assembly. The following assembly procedure is recommended for this equipment: 1. Inspect and identify all of the shipped
equipment and parts. Immediately report any suspected lost or damaged items. 2. Orientate the base frame into it normal position with the
casters rolling on the floor. 3. Remove the 2-sets of 3/8" bolts with nuts from where
they where shipped in the long traverse member of the base frame. 4. Position the 'U' shaped mounting channel on the bottom of
the upright mast onto the base frame; aligning the holes in the mounting
channel with the holes in the base frame (where the 3/8" bolts were
removed in step 3 above). Note: The mast is intentionally designed to "lean out" from the base frame. Assure that its orientation is correct by making sure that the "leveling" knob on top of the 'U' shaped mounting channel is toward the 'center' of the base. Re-install and snug (not fully tighten) the hardware removed in step #3 above to permanently attach the upright mast to the base frame. 5. Slide the heater-mounting bracket down over the top of the
upright mast. Note: The cylindrical tube is intentionally not welded perpendicular to the square bracket to compensate for the "leaning" upright mast. Assure the cylindrical tube is essentially horizontal when the heater-mounting bracket is installed. Secure the heater-mounting bracket to the upright mast by rotating the lever handle clockwise.
7. Slide the heat control down over the top of the upright
mast such that it rests upon the heater bracket. 8. Level the heater by rotating the leveling adjustment knob
located on where the upright mast attaches to the base frame. Once level,
securely tighten the 3/8" bolts installed in step # 4. 9. Plug the heater head into the receptacle on the heat control,
and plug the heat control into an appropriate power source. Note: As the DigiDry consumes 1200 watts of power, it needs to be connected to a 15 amp minimum circuit. If extension cords are needed, assure that they are rated for safely conducting 15 amps of current. 10. Rotate the rheostat on the heat control
fully clockwise and toggle the power switch (also located on the heat control)
to the ON position. Check that the red indicator light illuminates and that
the face of the element begins to emit heat by holding a hand 2" from
the heater surface. Note: Never touch the heating element surface when the DigiDry is plugged in.
The following procedures recommended for normal use and operation of this dryer: 1.Position the heater head at the location where it will dry
the printed product. Note: The DigiDry is utilizes an infrared heating technology,
which means that energy waves are emitted perpendicularly from the flat
surface of the heater face. Heat is created when these waves are absorbed
by a solid material versus warming or circulating air. Care needs to be
used when determining a heater location to assure that these waves will
be absorbed by the ink and substrate to be cured, and not other surfaces
that could be affected by being warmed. Note: The face of the heating element should be parallel to the substrate, approximately 3" to 4" away. The DigiDry will work equally well in all orientations (looking down, up, left, right, or any rotation in between). The DigiDry can also cure images from the "back" side of the substrate (the side opposite where the ink is deposited). Note: Supervise that the media will not contact the face of the heater. In addition to potentially smudging an uncured image, sustained contact could cause the media to overheat and / or burn. Using the various lever clamps on the heater head and upright mast; manipulate the stand, heater bracket, and heater head to achieve an optimal location. Note: An optional wire guard is available that clamps to the heater head and allows the heater head to be positioned under the substrate while it is moved horizontally across (over) the guard.
3. Toggle the power switch to the ON position, and rotate the
power stat to 70%. Allow approximately 5 minutes for the DigiDry to initially "warm-up". 4. Observe and test the imagines as they move across and beyond
the heater head. Dependent upon the speed of the printer, type of substrate,
room ambient conditions (specifically humidity), and amount of ink deposited;
the power stat on the heat control will need to be adjusted. Although the
process is not sensitive, care needs to be taken that the edges of the substrate
do not curl as the result of DigiDry curing the image. If this occurs, simply
reduce the amount of energy emitted by rotating the power stat counter-clockwise.
As images should be dry after they have passed by the DigiDry, an optimum
setting is simply emitting enough energy as needed to cure the image without
adding any additional heat. Note: BBC recommends that a quick reference chart be developed by the user for noting the appropriate power stat settings dependent upon the above noted conditions. 5. Turn the DigiDry off when not in use. Avoid ever touching the emitter surface or allowing any materials to come in contact with it. Please contact the service department at BBC Industries (800-654-4205) or Dennis with any questions regarding these instructions. |
